 Basic Search

 Basic Search allows you to perform a normal search. You can specify the search terms, the type of search (Keyword Anywhere, Author, Title, Subject, etc.), and a single limit on the search.

Basic Search

To perform the Default Search (Keyword Anywhere-Relevancy Ranked),

1. enter terms in the "Search:" box, using the following guidelines:

  • Do not include articles, (a, an, the, etc) or connectors (and, or not)
  • Use quotes to search an exact phrase: "world wide web"
  • Use + to mark essential terms: +explorer
  • Use ? to truncate: comput? (finds computer, computers, computing, etc.).

2. (Optional) Use "In:" drop-down box to specify a different type of search. (Author, Title, etc.)

3. (Optional) Choose a limit to apply to the search by either:

  • Use the Set single limit drop-down box to apply a single limit OR
  • Click the SELECT MORE LIMITS button (in lower right corner of search box) to see the entire list of limits (multiple limits can be applied on this new page).
  • The Limits help page gives useful information for each type of limit.

4. (Optional) Use the drop-down box to change the number of records displayed per page.

5. Click the Search button to begin the search.
